„dedicated to people who do not count the days, but the seconds“ no. II / 2023

The European Cultural Center, (1) based in Venice and Amsterdam in the Netherlands, has invited the artist Herbert W.H. Hundrich, who lives and works in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, to the 7th edition of the exhibition Times-Space-Existence, „Personal Structures“. This exhibition, organized by the European Cultural Centre, takes place in the parallel program of the 60th Biennale of Art 2024 in Venice.

In various discussions between the representatives of the European Cultural Center and Hundrich, it became clear that the European Cultural Center attaches great importance to its installation: „dedicated to people who do not count the days but the seconds“ No. 2 / 2023 (2)

This installation was presented to the public for the first time in 2023, as an important part of the exhibition „the days after the day when we began to count the days“ 2023 (3) in Rehna Monastery.

This installation is to be transformed and installed in situ at the Palazzo Mora in Venice.

The art historian and curator, Zahra Hasson-Taheri writes about Hundrich in the catalog for the annual exhibition of the Künstlerbund Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2023: „When Hundrich speaks of „people“, he refers to humanity as a whole, regardless of political national, cultural, religious or family affiliations. His artistic perspective focuses on the universal aspects of being human that are common to all people, regardless of their origin, faith or social background.

By disregarding individual identity and collective affiliation, Hundrich frees his art from any restrictions and barriers. In this way, he creates works that are timeless and can be relevant to people of all times and places.

Hundrich’s approach emphasizes the essence of being human and focuses on the basic emotions, experiences and challenges that all people share. In this way, he creates a connection between the viewers of his art and the common human experience.“

„Specifically in my installation: the refugee crisis, the escape, the people fleeing and dying across the Mediterranean. At the center of attention, from a descriptive distance, through perception, subject to the law of light and shadow, media attention, human and political dramaturgy. At the same time, I touch on every situation in which people’s very existence is threatened by the onset of the most brutal violence. Literally, „dedicated to the people who count not the days but the seconds. When will this terror finally end. “
